Arrive in Bucharest airport in the afternoon at the start of our Classical Tour of Romania and transfer to your hotel for check-in. In the afternoon enjoy a walking tour of Bucharest (subject to your arrival time). Dinner and accommodation in a 4 star hotel for 1 night.
Day 2: Bucharest
After breakfast at the hotel, take a morning panoramic sightseeing tour of Bucharest with a stop at the Cathedral of the Patriarchate; then depart for Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Visit the Episcopal Church where the Romanian Kings are buried. Lunch is included today.
Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Cozia. Visit the Monastery and Sibiu, one of the oldest towns in Transylvania – formerly Hermannstadt – founded by the Saxon colonists. Also today, enjoy a guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, the Liars’ Bridge). Dinner and overnight in a 4 star hotel in Sibiu.
Day 3: Sibiu – Biertan – Sighisoara
After breakfast, take a morning drive to the heart of Transylvania to visit the secret retreat of European royalty. The Saxon villages display a remarkable, unspoilt harmony between people and landscape. This visit is like a trip back in time. Drive to Biertan to visit the impressive UNESCO heritage fortified church. Lunch is included in a traditional house. Continue after lunch to Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula). Visit the medieval citadel (the UpperTown): the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill. Dinner and overnight at a 4 star hotel in Sighisoara.
Day 4: Sighisoara- Gura Humorului
After breakfast, continue your journey of discovery to Târgu Mures, the elegant city centre well known for its architecture. Drive on to Bistrita, one of the 7 main medieval towns of Siebenbürgen (the German name for Transylvania). Continue through the TihutaPass. This evening enjoy a typical dinner and overnight stay at a 4 star hotel in Gura Humorului.
Day 5: Gura Humorului – Monasteries -Piatra Neamt
After breakfast, enjoy a full day in Bucovina, land of the unique painted monasteries belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage. Visit the Moldovita and Sucevita monasteries with outside frescoes. Lunch will be taken en route, then visit the famous monastery of Voronet, known as the Sistine Chapel of the Orient. Late afternoon, you will continue south to visit the Agapia monastery.
Dinner and overnight stay in a 4 star hotel in Piatra Neamt.
Day 6: Piatra Neamt – Brasov
Departure after breakfast, across the mountains, to Brasov through the spectacular Bicaz Gorges – the RedLake – Miercurea Ciuc. Lunch is included en route. You will visit the beautiful fortified church of Prejmer. We expect a late afternoon arrival in Brasov or Poiana Brasov. Dinner in a typical restaurant this evening and overnight in a 4 star hotel.
Day 7: Brasov – Bran – Bucharest
Bucharest – your final destination in this tour
Our Tour of Romania continues today as we include a panoramic sightseeing tour and guided walking tour in the historical centre of Brasov (formerly Kronstadt), including a visit to the Black Church, then departure to Bran for a visit to Dracula’s Castle. Drive across the mountains to Sinaia. We make a stop for lunch, en route. Visit the Sinaia Monastery (built 1695) and the fabulous PelesCastle, the former summer residence of the Royal family. In the afternoon, we drive to Bucharest, where we include a visit to the OutdoorVillageMuseum. Tonight we have a Farewell dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight in a 4 star hotel.
Day 8: Bucharest
In the morning, after breakfast, free time in central Bucharest for visits and shopping (subject to your flight times) and transfer to the airport for your onward or homeward flights.
